Louise Imogen Guiney was born on January 7, 1861 in Roxbury, Massachusetts to Patrick R. Guinea, an Irish-born American Civil War officer and lawyer, and Jeanette Margaret Doyle. She was educated at the Notre Dame convent school in Boston, Massachusetts and Elmhurst Academy of the Sacred Heart in Providence, Rhode Island.
